Tough times...

As my beloved husband reported in his blog, here, kateslover.livejournal.com/24685.html, his dad's condition has deteriorated after his stroke a few weeks ago; he may have had another one, we don't know yet.  Chet was doing wonderfully well, and we had hope that he'd be back home when we went for our scheduled visit.  It's a hard time for the family--hard for Clare, Joseph's mom, and for Joseph.

I did this drawing last year, just 11 months ago when Clare was in the hospital and not expected to live.  She surprised us all, and I think it was largely because of the love between them.  He was looking at her as I sketched him--and yes, sketching is my way of dealing with life.

They're a loving couple, and have been for over 50 years.  You can see it in his face.

These things, these times, come to us all, but somehow it never gets any easier...

man, oh man....i hope and pray that the decisions will be easier than they seem. sure wish i could just reach out and hug you guys. this stuff is so hard...

you are in my heart, and the hug is there.
Thank you, sweet thing. I know you've been through a lot of this, too. Hang in is all we can do, but your good thoughts HELP.
Thank you, Miss Vicky. Very, very much appreciated.
Lovely drawing Kate and sorry to hear about the circumstances.
Life can be tough... i'm moved that you shared this and am sending you my best wishes.
Sarah Ketelaars
Thank you, Sarah. We appreciate the good wishes...it means a lot.

Oh Kate, this is so so hard. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

Sherry in WI
Thank you, Sherry. Yes, it is. I hate to see J. having to go through it.
Oh my heart goes out to you all, aging is so trying on everyone - and yet inevitable. God Bless you all.
Thank you so much...I know we'll get through it. I lost both my parents years ago, so I do so know how he's feeling...
A beautiful drawing. I am sorry to learn of your father in law's ill health.
Thank you, Owen. Glad my husband and he got to spend more time together the last few years...
Lovely drawing. I'm really sorry to hear Chet is doing so poorly and the prognosis is so grim. We went through this w/ my mother-in-law the last couple of yrs of her life and I am sad to say it never got any easier.
You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much, Dee, you're a good friend.
Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers Kate.
We appreciate that, Ronell!

So hard for Joseph and everybody. You can see Joseph and his father have some similarity in facial characteristics--and in the loving look, too. :) Best to you all--may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Always, Rita
(I keep forgetting to add my name because I am anonymous here--rememberd this time.)
Thank you, Rita...I always loved that blessing, and ask it often before going to sleep at night.

Prayers to you and your family, most of all for the beautiful man in the beautiful sketch.
Thank you so much...all prayers are so appreciated...

This is a hard moment. Sending hope, and love and prayers to you and Joseph.
Thank you, Annie! J. talked to his mom this evening, and it's been a better day for all of them out there...
