Finished filling the folder...

flip side, originally uploaded by Cathy (Kate) Johnson.

...and now I am officially jonesing for a new journal! I have two more folders, but I believe they'll be birthday gifts. I've got one more handbound one done with all tinted paper, but you really have to be in the mood for that. I have a few pages left in two tiny journals that mostly go traveling with me. MUST take time to bind some new journals!

I've been brushing up on my stitching technique and other binding fine points--my favorite book on the subject is an old Dover publication, here: http://www.amazon.com/Craft-Bookbinding-Manly-Banister/dp/0486278522/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222958291&sr=8-2 and I also reran the pertinent bits of Larry Withers' DVD, Book Binding, a Traditional Technique, here: http://www.amazon.com/Bookbinding-Traditional-Technique-Larry-Withers/dp/B000NJLNSG/ref=pd_sim_b_3

Today will be a busy one--again (I've been deep into working on the new edition of my North Light book, Watercolor Tricks and Techniques)--but I hope at least to get a start!

In other news, My Hero figured out what was wrong with the washer! The hub, which convinces the agitator to agitate, was worn completely out. He called Steve and told him what was needed, he came and installed a whole new agitator complete with hub, and we're in business! Hooray for

kateslover ! Thanks, love...

So with the new capability for actually washing more than the bare necessities, we've been involved with more organizing and making room in the bedroom. It's been collecting sewing and reenacting stuff, plus the normal detritus of my world--stacks and stacks of books--for some time now. I thought I more or less organized it before he moved here, but it was only "more or less."

We've definitely been practicing Discardia, as kateslover said the other day! I'm inspired by my young friend Kristin, as well--it feels GOOD.

I cleaned all the fabric and patterns out of the old pie safe, which now holds extra bedding. We washed a ton of stuff that had gotten mildew-smelling (it HAS been a really damp year!), and J. carried I don't know how many plastic tubs of extra bedding, clothes, and fabric to the attic. He found a place to hang the little white shelf/hanger unit I got a few months ago, and we're figuring on adding shelves to the antique armoire to hold jeans and t-shirts and such. Wow...I'm almost ready to take pictures of the bedroom!

It feels good to make progress--on the book and on the house. Now if I could just make some on the journal-binding front...
