Merlin Doing Yoga--an inadvertant comparison of art papers

Merlin Doing Yoga, originally uploaded by Cathy (Kate) Johnson.

This quick sketch in my journal turned out to be a clear demonstration of how different the same subject and same medium is on different papers! At left is the last full page in my handbound journal--it's Fabriano Artistico hot press 140 lb. At right, which I used for the endpaper (hence the pronounced gutter between pages!) is Fabriano Artistico cold press. I rather like the effect, when using Prismacolor colored pencils!

And of course this is The Little Prince, again, Merlin the Magnificent, relaxing on my lap while I watched a DVD...

My cats are such great, handy models--if I'm too tired, it's too late in the day, or it's too cold to go plein aire painting, I can always sketch the furry family...

Very cute pose, very cute cat and I agree with you about the difference between the two kinds of paper---they FEEL so different when you're drawing on them, don't they?? Well, they ARE so different, which is probably why. Bon voyage, my buddy, while we're at it. Be safe!
Xoxo,

And it depends on what you're drawing WITH, too...I'm still looking for a very hard-surfaced smooth paper!

And thank you, sweetie!

XOXO
