Crocus

Crocus, originally uploaded by graphicartepsi.

This is last night's journal painting, reminding myself to pay attention as the seasons change. It was chilly sitting on the muddy ground, but I wanted to be right down there where the flowers are--and alas, I can't find my foam pad, still...

This clump gets the most sun, so it was more open than some of the shady ones...lovely, sitting there in the fading light, with my watercolors and the sounds of birds.

Spring

How fresh and earthy and sweet, pure spring at it's finest. Ahhhh I envy you with such talent, if only some day I can capture this essence of the moment. I am tring.

Re: Spring

Hi Sandy--you just keep practicing, you have a nice touch and you'll GET there.
Lovely!

The crocuses I planted two years ago don't seem to have naturalized as I planned. I have a very few yellow and white crocuses this year, no purple. The clay must have finished them off, alas...
Mine must be close to 10 years old, I really need to plant NEW ones. They're getting a little sparse...purple seems to be dominant here, though, I wonder why? I have one little yellow one and a white one that fell over.*G*
A beautiful painting, Cathy...so fresh and loose, yet surehanded. and the virbrant colors really gives it life..how talented you are!
Ronell
Thank you, Ronell! I sometimes enjoy painting tighter, but I'm never happy with my work if it looks tentative. "Surehanded" is a LOVELY compliment!
Really lovely, Cathy - the combination of wash and sketchy marks is so effective in suggesting the earth.

Thank you, E-J! I do like that combination, myself...

Some of those marks in the soil were made by drawing back into the wet wash with a fine mechanical pencil, bruising the paper fibers and making dark lines. Nice linear technique...
