Joseph on Toned Paper

Yesterday I had to send Joseph off to Virginia again, and return to an empty house...a week's visit was absolutely wonderful, but all too short. I'm delighted to have had the chance to document a fair amount of it...this sketch is my favorite of him. Drawing on toned paper, with lights and darks, just seems to bring it to life...

We were very tired, after much going and walking and being kept awake by the steam heat...so lying in bed at home on Sunday, reading and drinking coffee and chocolate truffles was just about perfect.

Kate, this is one of my favorite portraits that I've seen in a long time, if that sentence makes any sense at all! It's beautifully done -- simple and eloquent with a wonderful range of values. I just love your art! ;-)

Linda, thank you so much! I love the 3-D capabilities of a mid-toned paper...must have MORE!

And I was pleased with this one, too--I was going for bold and strong, but still something of the tenderness I feel.
