Herbes de Provence
One of my French art friends, Casey Toussaint (who does wonderful artwork of her life and travels and shares on her blog at http://caseytoussaint.wordpress.com/) sent me to a link for herbes de provence that looks like just what I was searching for. Tomorrow I make sure I have all the ingredients (not sure about marjoram) and will concoct my own! Should smell marvelous, if nothing else!
* 1 tsp dried thyme
* 1 tsp ground rosemary
* 1 tsp summer savory
* 1/2 tsp lavender (optional but traditional)
* 1 tsp marjoram
* 1 tsp dried basil
* 1/2 tsp dried sage
* 1/2 tsp dried oregano
Once again I have killed my rosemary...it just does NOT grow well here...but I've got my own thyme, basil, sage, oregano, and can get summer savory and lavender. Can't wait to get cooking!
My old friend Roberta gave me a lovely cooked vegetable medley from her garden--they were off on vacation and didn't finish it, so I inherited a wonderful homegrown onion, tomato, and summer squash mixture that would have been even better with a dash of the above. Didn't need it, though...tasted of olive oil and some very subtle herb flavor...
...I'm babysitting their flowers and herbs while they're gone...tough duty, but I think I can soldier through...*G*
