Rush Lake--a 15 minute plein air sketch

As I noted in my Flickr album, I called this "Rush Lake" for several reasons, though that is not the name on the county maps.

It's in part because the little park closes at sunset and it was within minutes of BEING there, hence the rich colors. I was hurrying, as I often am, there--and of course the other reason was because the rush beds that border this side of it were alive with redwing blackbirds--spring is HERE.

The colors were gorgeous...the setting sun touched the rush beds and kissed only the very tops of the trees across the little lake--all else was in deep, cool shadow. (Of course it helped that I was wearing my brown sunglasses when I stopped to paint--when I took them off the colors were nowhere near this intense!)

You can click on the image and see the notes on the painting that explain the various techniques--not too bad for 15 minutes!

Despite the frustrations of painting on the spot--earlier, I had managed to hit the brakes and my watercolor block went sailing onto the floor of the Jeep, followed in short order by my palette that I was letting dry on the passenger seat, neatly splattering good old Thalo blue across the pale winter grass in my other painting--it felt wonderful to be out there. I'd gotten myself a bit wound up, and being out in nature, remembering to BREATHE, helped immeasurably.

It's gorgeous for fifteen minutes. I love your artwork.
Thank you sweet thing! I was JUST thinking about you earlier...been eating a lot of lovely oranges lately, and drinking tea...
^___^ shares the tea and oranges with you.
And much appreciated. I'd been missing them--and you.
*Hugs you* I've been laying low, just letting my energy build back up.

I've missed you too.
Understood! I've had less energy since the surgery last summer, and keeping terribly busy keeping the head above water, too. I'm teaching again, so most of my spare posting time goes there...

"Spare time," what's that?!*G*

Hope all is well with you!

Re: GORGEOUS

Thanks, sweetie! Well, it was cold when I went out to lunch, and then all of a sudden it warmed up to 50 or so...so I HAD to go out and paint!
